AMATA - The Australasian Microarray & Associated Technologies Association

Attendees at the 2nd National Microarray Conference in in 2003 voted to form a new body to serve as a forum for the use of microarrays and associated high-throughput genomic technologies.

The goals of the organisation are:

to organise annual meetings for the exchange of scientific and technological information;

to assist in the introduction and implementation of new high-throughput genomic technologies into Australasia;

to assist in brokering nationwide arrangements with suppliers for high-cost materials;

to serve as a multi-disciplinary forum for fully utilising these technologies and the inherent demands placed on data analysis so as to achieve a successful systems biology viewpoint.

The Association builds on the initial Australian Cancer Research Foundation DNA-Resource grant that has underpinned the use of DNA microarrays in Australia by providing funds for instrumentation, underwriting the purchase of cDNA, oligo and shRNA libraries, promoting interactions between core facilities, supporting conferences and workshops, and providing a renewable source of funds for new initaitives.
